Fall Edition

Lots of things going on at White Cat.  For one, there were so many great stories that it really was hard to choose!

With us going into book publishing, it’s been a very busy few months, so I want to thank all of the writers who have been so patient waiting to see who was accepted.  We’re adding staff to ensure that all submissions are both acknowledged and responded to within two weeks of submission.

The difficult thing this issue has been the volume of submissions.  I’m giving serious thought to monthly editions because we generally only publish eight to ten stories per issue.  One of my editors suggested that we increase the guideline word count to 4,000 words.  I’d be interested in your opinions on that, and you can forward them to editor@whitecatpublications.com.

We’ll be posting interviews with other publishers and writers this week and throughout the month.  And shortly we’ll be introducing here video interviews and our new radio broadcast will roll out after the first of the year.

Also, our first eBook will be out within two weeks, and we’ll all be looking forward to your feed back on it.

  1. I think it might be OK to increase the word count for selected stories, but I personally don’t think I’d want to see all stories hit that word count. In reading online, I like the shorter, hard hitting stories about the best.

  2. Editor says:

I think I’m with you on this one, Charles. What you were saying about certain select stories makes good sense.

  3. “Cuttlefishing” is very cool. That ending could be the set up for a whole spin off novel. Wow.

  4. Easy, by Karen Albright Lin.

Some great lines here. Great description. The writer was really in the zone with this one, seeing the character from the inside

  5. Linda Davis says:

New issue looks awesome. Does this mean that stories not chosen do not get a response this go around? And I thought the flash fiction winners from the flash science fiction stories would be in this issue. Am I missing them?

  6. Editor says:

Still posting and choosing more stories, Linda, so don’t give up yet.

And I’m going through the best way to log in submissions, make sure every story is read and responded to and, frankly, there were so many more good stories that I’d like to work in weekly stories as we shift to a monthly edition.

  7. Linda Davis says:

Okey, dokey. I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks!

  8. Sue Ann Connaughton says:

Thank you for complimenting my story. I hadn’t planned for it to lead into a novel, just more flash adventures for Cuttlefish. Hmmmm.

  9. Al Carty says:

It’s a pleasure to have had my work presented on White Cat. It’s always nice to be in good company. This site has a professional look, and I think writers and readers will have a snug harbor here for many years.
